OTS
Renishaw OTS is a 3D optical wireless touch-trigger tool setter that features a cable-free design, flexible installation, interference resistance, and high precision. Designed specifically for small and medium-sized machining centers, it enables tool length and diameter measurement, tool breakage detection, and unmanned machining, making it the ideal tool setting solution for machines with dual tables or rotary tables.
Core Features and Technical Principles
Core Features: Wireless tool setting and tool breakage detection for small and medium-sized machining centers, replacing wired tool setters; compatible with machines equipped with dual-table or rotary tables
Technical Principles: 3D contact triggering + modulated infrared optical transmission (Class 1 safety infrared)
The tool contacts the probe to trigger a signal; the probe transmits the signal to the receiver via modulated infrared light
The receiver (OMI-2/Omm-2) processes the signal and outputs it to the machine tool’s NC system, automatically calculating tool offsets
System Components: OTS probe body + OMI-2/Omm-2 optical receiver + probe tip assembly + interface module
Wireless Advantages: No cable constraints, unrestricted table movement, easy installation, and compatibility with complex machine tool layouts

Core Features and Applications
Fully Automatic Tool Length/Diameter Measurement
Measures tool length along the Z-Axis and the diameter of rotating tools along the X/Y-axes, automatically updates tool offsets, and eliminates manual errors
Supports all types of tools, including end mills, drills, reamers, and taps, and is compatible with small and medium-sized machining centers
Tool Breakage Detection
Quick detection after tool change or before machining; immediate alerts for broken tools or chipped edges, eliminating batch defects
Supports in-process inspection and real-time monitoring of tool status during machining
Unattended “lights-out” machining
Wireless design + automatic tool setting, no manual supervision required, compatible with dual-table and rotary-table machines
Can be combined with spindle probes (OMP40/OMP60) to form a dual-probe system, enabling full closed-loop control of both workpiece and tool
Typical Application Scenarios
Vertical/horizontal machining centers, gantry machining centers (small to medium-sized)
Dual-table, rotary-table, and multi-station automated production lines
Automotive parts, 3C electronics, precision molds, general machinery, and other small-to-medium batch, highly automated machining
