HPMA
Renishaw’s HPMA (High Precision Motorized Arm) is a high-precision motorized tool setting arm designed specifically for CNC lathes and turning centers. At its core are automatic swing-in/swing-out functionality and 3D contact measurement, enabling tool length and diameter measurement, tool breakage detection, and unmanned “lights-out” machining. It serves as the standard tool setting solution for turning automation.
Core Functionality and System Configuration
· Core Functionality: Fully automatic tool setting and tool breakage detection for lathes, replacing manual tool setting and enabling unmanned production (Renishaw)
· System Configuration: HPMA motorized tool setting arm + RP3 3D probe + TSI3/TSI3C machine interface + probe assembly
· Operating Principle:
1. The machine tool’s M-code command drives the tool setting arm to swing 90°, moving from the safe stow position to the measurement position (approx. 2–3 seconds) Renishaw
2. The tool moves to contact the RP3 probe, triggering a signal; the machine tool records the coordinates and automatically calculates tool offsets Renishaw
3. Once measurement is complete, the tool setting arm automatically swings back to the safe position, avoiding interference with machining
· Protection Design: IPX6/IPX8, with probe cover, resistant to coolant and chips, suitable for harsh workshop environments
