OLP40
The Renishaw OLP40 optical turning probe is a compact 3D touch-trigger probe designed specifically for lathes and grinders. It is used for in-process alignment, dimensional inspection, and on-machine process control, and features optical modulation transmission for high iMmunity to interference and stable signal transmission.
Core Features and Design
Ultra-compact 40Mm-diameter housing with a reinforced structure and tempered glass optical window, designed to withstand harsh operating conditions such as coolant, dust, and vibration on lathes and grinders;
3-axis triggering (±X/±Y/±Z) with a proven kinematic mechanism, featuring overtravel protection of ±12.5° in the X/Y directions and 6 Mm in the Z direction;
Activation supports M-code and spin-up, and is compatible with Renishaw OMI-2/OMI-2C/OMI-2T, OSI+OMM-2, and other optical receivers, facilitating upgrades to legacy equipment.
Technical Specifications
Repeatability: 1.00 μm 2σ, meeting the dimensional control requirements of precision turning;
Optical Transmission: Modulated light transmission with 360° omnidirectional signal coverage and exceptional resistance to ambient light interference;
Trigger Force: 50–90 gf in the X/Y directions, ensuring rapid and stable trigger response;
Protection Rating: High-grade sealing capable of withstanding high-pressure coolant flushing;
Battery: Long-life lithium battery, supports extended continuous operation, reducing downtime for battery replacement.
Typical Functions and Application Scenarios
Workpiece Alignment: Automatically determines part coordinate systems, performs eccentricity compensation, and locates end faces, replacing manual dial gauges to improve efficiency and eliminate human error;
In-Machine Inspection: IMmediately measures outer diameter, inner diameter, step height, groove width, taper, etc., after roughing or finishing, providing real-time feedback to correct tool wear and thermal deformation;
Process Control: Calculates Statistical Process Capability (CPK), reducing scrap rates and offline inspection time;
Compatible Equipment: Various CNC lathes, turning centers, internal/external cylindrical grinders, particularly suitable for small and medium-sized multi-task machines.
Advantages and Value
Compared to radio-based probes, the optical solution offers more stable signals in confined lathe environments and eliminates frequency interference issues;
Its compact size fits lathes with limited tool turret space without interfering with routine machining;
Automated measurement significantly reduces setup time, making it particularly suitable for batch production scenarios;
Seamless integration with Renishaw’s prograMming software and macro programs enables rapid implementation of customized inspection cycles.
